What is Light Therapy?
Light Therapy uses a process known as Photobiomodulation (PBM) in which light triggers a cascade of biological events that leads to increase in cellular metabolism, decrease in pain, reduction in muscle spasm, and improved microcirculation to injured tissue.
In Photobiomodulation (PBM), photons enter the tissue and interact with the Cytochrome C complex within mitochondria. This triggers the Krebs cycle.

Adipose Tissue
Conclusions: "Except for the IR3.3 group, all treated groups reduced the body weight (p < 0.001). The R5 group reduced the abdominal subcutaneous tissue weight and thickness (p < 0.05), even though all treated groups reduced the number of adipocytes and its size (p < 0.001). No histological changes in the liver.

Bone Repair
Conclusion: "Histometrical analysis revealed a more rapid accumulation of reparative new bone in the hole injury of the laser-irradiated legs. We conclude that GaAsAl laser irradiation after injury was effective on bone repair when compared to results in the control group."

Brain Disease
Conclusions: "Studying the literature indicated that PBM can be translated to a potential therapeutic tool, acting through a spectrum of mechanisms that work together to decelerate disease progression in the organism, which is difficult to achieve through pharmacological interventions."

Conclustion: "Light emitting diode (LED) phototherapy is a promising treatment modality for photorejuvenation as it is safe, noninvasive, accessible, and can be easily combined with other treatment options. LED irradiation alters intrinsic cellular activity via absorption by chromophores located in the skin and may result in desirable photorejuvenation effects. In this review, we discuss the physiologic process of cutaneous aging, how visible light phototherapy with LEDs may be used to treat aging skin, and the importance of photoprotection."

Hair Growth
Conclusion: "Low-level 650 nm red light promoted the proliferation of human hair follicles in the experimental cultured-tissue model.
Consistently, 650 nm red light significantly delayed the transition of hair cycle from anagen to catagen in vitro.
RNA-seq analysis and gene clustering for the differentially expressed genes suggests that leukocyte transendothelial migration, metabolism, adherens junction and other biological process maybe involved in stimulation of hair follicles by 650-nm red light treatment."
